Christian accepts the plaque on behalf of Big Ass Fans.During last night’s U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Green Scene event, Big Ass Fans was awarded a LEED Gold plaque for their new 45,000 sq. ft. R&D Facility by the USGBC Blue Grass Chapter President and Chairman, Jeff Moneypenny.

The event was held on November 4, 2009 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Lexington-based R&D facility and included informative tours of the space for attendees while educating them on the benefits of energy-efficient, 6 to 24-ft Big Ass Fans.

The Gold Certified testing facility uses 35% less energy and 60% less water than a standard commercial building and was the first commercial building to be certified Gold in Kentucky by the USGBC.

Members of the Kentucky Cabinet in attendance included Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Jonathan Miller and Energy and Environment Cabinet Deputy Secretary Hank List, both of whom recognized Big Ass Fans’ achievement and honored the company for striving to meet Kentucky’s sustainability goals. Also attending was Commerce Lexington’s President and CEO Bob Quick.
