The People of Big Ass Fan Design
Back to Fan Design - Faces page1 page 2 Dr. Richard Aynsley - Director of Research and DevelopmentDr. Richard Aynsley, B.Arch (Hons I) & Ph.D. in Aerodynamics, Uni. of NSW Australia and MS(ArchEng) Penn State, is Director of Research & Development at the Big Ass Fan Company. He has conducted wide-ranging research and consulting over the past 37 years in building science, energy-efficiency, and building aerodynamics for commercial and government clients in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. He has published numerous articles in peer-review international journals and was principal author of Architectural Aerodynamics, Applied Science, London as well as chapters in a number of textbooks He serves on technical committees of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Technical Council on Wind Engineering, the Air Movement & Control Association International’s Standard 230 Laboratory Methods of Testing Air Circulator Fans for Rating, and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers’ SSPC on Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy. Rick Oleson - Product Development EngineerDescended from Nordic Vikings, Product Development Engineer Rick Oleson brings a unique combination of Scandinavian work ethic and bloodthirsty social values that make him a perfect fit here at Big Ass Fans. Rick-O has critical skills in caribou husbandry, longboat navigation, winter survival and arson. Not to mention he has developed products in use in both military and civilian applications around the world, including some of the same countries that he had raided in his earlier Viking period. His background a safety products design engineer gives him a strong sense of the importance of fault-free performance in critical products and a familiarity with performance standards and certification processes, all of which tends to make him surprisingly uninteresting at parties and in general casual conversation. He holds seven United States Patents and one Design patent, and has one Patent currently pending at Big Ass Fans, but no one knows for sure what any of them mean. Pam Moon - Mechanical Engineer Pam is a Mechanical Engineer and knows all about CAD (that’s Computer Aided Drafting for you non-enginerds) and product engineering. Her CAD renderings and engineering work gives Big Ass Fans the first glimpses at the feasibility of new fan designs. Pam holds one individual patent from previous work for a safe door interlock that kept out thieves and one big hairy guy from UL during an attack test. She also has one shared design patent for an electronic lock. Ms. Moon is also our resident Anglophile, having lived in England (10 miles from Stonehenge) for five years; she likes British comedy and is familiar with regional British accents (and silly walks).
