Big Ass Fans in the Beer Store

A Bitter Cold Problem

The Beer Store is a beer lovers dream with over 190.2 million pints of beer from all over the world passing through the 125,000 sq ft distribution center, but to the employees it was another story. Canadians face famously cold winters year after year and during these times, the warm air rises to the ceiling while employees are left cold near the floor. These extreme temperature differences cause chilly working conditions for employees. The company needed an energy efficient solution to circulate the heat down to occupant level
to create a more comfortable year-round environment while saving energy.

A Warming Solution

The Beer Store installed two 24-foot diameter Powerfoil®X fans by Big Ass Fans to circulate heat down to the occupant level and create even temperatures within the facility. Destratifying the space decreases the rate at which the building sheds heat through the roof, creating a more comfortable environment while saving money.

Money Saving Results

Big Ass Fans helped to decrease the temperature variance between ceiling and floor from a staggering 15 degrees Celsius to less than 5 degrees. By regulating temperatures with constant, steady air movement, the Beer Store was also able to reduce their natural gas usage and heating energy costs. Within one year the company saw a 19% reduction in gas usage and employees were able to enjoy a warmer, more comfortable workplace.
