Problem

Nestled on more than 200 acres of rolling pastures in Bantam, Connecticut, Arethusa Farm is not just any dairy. Owned by two top executives of Manolo Blahnik, a luxury shoe brand famously spotlighted on the television show “Sex and the City,” the farm prides itself on providing the utmost care for its products and cows — from feed to bedding to breeding practices. When owners George Malkemus and Anthony Yurgaitis needed an effective way to keep animals comfortable in their dry-cow facility, they sought the best equipment on the market.

Solution

After touring a neighboring farm equipped with Big Ass Fans®, the solution was clear. Arethusa Farm installed two 16-ft (4-m) Powerfoil® fans in its 9,600-sq-ft (891-sq-m) heifer barn. “The owners do everything to the highest standards, which is why they wanted Big Ass Fans specifically,” farm manager Matt Senecal said. Running constantly, the fans create comfortable air movement that keeps animals cool, runs birds out of the space and helps maintain cleaner and dryer pens. They’re also extremely quiet. “The Big Ass Fans are exactly what we needed,” said Senecal.
