Case Study: Three Bears Farm

The fans are so quiet you can't even tell they're there. Initially, we had some concern that the horses would notice the noise or movement, but we don't have that problem with the Big Ass Fans. Jackie Sawyer, Owner

Problem

Cartersville, Georgia, just north of Atlanta, is home to Three Bears Farm, an English riding facility that has been in existence for over decade. Owner Jackie Sawyer always dreamed of building a larger facility and expanding the farm and in 2010, these dreams became reality. The expansion included a new indoor riding arena accommodating various levels, ages and breeds of horses and a larger, updated barn that increased their boarding capacity to 30 horses. Keeping the horses and riders cool in the hot, humid temperatures was paramount which led Sawyer to investigate elevated air movement considering mechanical conditioning was not an option.

Solution

Sawyer installed two 24-ft (7.3-m) Powerfoil®X and four 12-ft (3.6-m) Powerfoil®X Plus fans from Big Ass Solutions® to help circulate the air within the arena and barn. The evaporative cooling effect from these large-diameter, low-speed fans creates comforting air circulation without disrupting occupants, horses or arena footing.

Results

Though big and powerful, these large-diameter fans are also incredibly energy efficient because they use very small motors, particularly relative to the volume of air movement generated. Creating a comfortable and natural environment within equestrian facilities allows for more efficient training time, minimizing heat related fatigue for horse and rider. Along with the cooling effect, Big Ass Fans help improve indoor air quality by dispersing the odors inevitable in equine facilities, which is vital to the performance and health of horses.
