Scope of Work

CAUTION: The following is a reference tool only. Please consult the appropriate fan installation guide for complete installation instructions and safety guidelines.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician! Incorrect assembly can cause electric shock or damage the motor and the controller!

WARNING: Fan installation must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code, AS/NZ 3000, and all local codes. Failure to comply with these codes could result in personal injury or property damage.

CAUTION: The Big Ass Fans product warranty will not cover equipment damage or failure that is caused by improper installation of customer-responsible work.

ATTENTION: BIG ASS FANS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR RECEIVING OR HOUSING THE FAN IN A SAFE, DRY PLACE UNTIL INSTALLATION.

General

  • This quote includes regular working hours from 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday. Afterhours or weekend premium charge will be applied.
  • If installation is scheduled afterhours or on a weekend, then customer must allow installer(s) to perform a site inspection prior to scheduled installation date and time. (at least one work shift prior for afterhours, and at least one day prior for weekend)
  • Any bridge cranes in or near the fan installation area must be locked out during the fan installation.
  • In order to activate the warranty, the Check-In and Close-Out forms must be returned to Big Ass Fans.
  • Whether provided by Big Ass Fans or owner, lift is to be a two-man 7.6m scissor lift, unless otherwise specified.
  • If a lift is to be provided by the owner and that lift is unavailable or deemed to be in an unsafe condition, a replacement lift will be ordered and charged to the owner as well as any down time as a result.
  • Motor/controller is to be supplied as part of the fan package by Big Ass Fans.
  • Roof insulation that is currently in place will not be touched or modified.
  • Angle iron or other steel added by installer in commercial or finished (non-industrial) spaces will be painted to match by installer.
  • The area is to be clean and in operating condition upon completion.
  • Any delays to the installers as a result of the owner/owners representatives including access to the work area(s), delivery of the fans to the installers, or delays related to indecision about fan/controller placement will result in a back bill charge. Trips to the job site where scheduled work cannot be performed will result in a back bill charge to the owner.

Level 1 Scope of Work

Big Ass Fans responsibility consists of:

  • Attach mounting to I-Beam or standard steel Angle Irons
  • Attach extension tube to upper yoke
  • Secure the safety cable
  • Attach lower yoke to extension tube
  • Attach motor frame to lower yoke
  • Attach winglets to airfoils
  • Attach foil retainers and airfoils to hub

(DOES NOT INCLUDE start-up or operational training)

Owner's responsibility consists of (must be completed prior to Big Ass Fans arrival):

  • Install wall mounted controller to an accessible surface (i.e. column, concrete wall or wood)
  • Install all CAT-5 data communications cable between fan and wall controller
  • Wiring per NEC from power source to fan mounting location
  • Option A: one (1) dedicated circuit breaker per fan in the service panel
  • Option B: for multiple fans on a common branch circuit, one (1) dedicated fused disconnect and/or circuit breaker locally mounted per fan; or no disconnect required per NEC430 part IX, if applicable
  • Install a power connection point that will be comprised of a junction box with a NEMA L-16-20R (480V) or
  • L-15-20R (250V) receptacle Exclusions
  • Clean-up or rework of existing electrical infractions are not included in this scope.
  • Local disconnecting means adjacent to the fan is not included.
  • Relocation of obstacles (lighting, electrical conduits, gas lines, water lines, sprinkler lines etc.) is not included.
  • Fire alarm tie-ins are not included.
  • Permits and inspection fees are not included. Any other requirements beyond the description above are not included.

Level 2 Scope of Work

Big Ass Fans responsibility consists of:

  • Attach mount to I-Beam or standard steel Angle Irons
  • Attach extension tube to upper yoke
  • Secure the safety cable
  • Attach lower yoke to extension tube
  • Attach motor frame to lower yoke
  • Attach winglets to airfoils
  • Attach foil retainers and airfoils to hub
  • Install wall mounted controller to the nearest accessible surface (i.e. column, concrete wall or wood)
  • Connect to customer provided local Power Source (will be housed in conduit until height of ceiling deck is reached)
  • Start-up and operational training

Owner's responsibility consists of (must be completed prior to Big Ass Fans arrival):

  • Wiring per NEC from power source to within 3’ of fan mounting location
  • Install all CAT-5 data communications cable within 100’ of fan location (Big Ass Fans assumes CAT-5 cable
  • Option A: one (1) dedicated circuit breaker per fan in the service panel
  • Option B: for multiple fans on a common branch circuit, one (1) dedicated fused disconnect and/or circuit breaker locally mounted per fan; or no disconnect required per NEC430 part IX, if applicable
  • Install a power connection point that will be comprised of a junction box with a NEMA L-16-20R (480V) or L-15-20R (250V) receptacle

Exclusions

  • Clean-up or rework of existing electrical infractions are not included in this scope.
  • Local disconnecting means adjacent to the fan is not included.

Installation Assumptions

Unless otherwise noted, all installations should commence within two weeks of fan shipment.

  • No installation will be scheduled until customer clears credit hold.
  • Assumptions and clarifications: Any of these conditions that are not met will trigger an additional charge to customer.
  • Permits and stamped approvals are not included; if they are required they will pass through expense to customer.
  • Regular working hours 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday.
  • A ten (10) hour window of work will be provided.
  • 75m conduit run (or less) total.
  • If a lift is provided by customer, the lift will be deemed safe to use, in working condition, fully charged & available for use with no delays.
  • All fans are in one location and under one roof, all installations shall be performed in one trip
  • Circuit breakers are of modern and available type, no bus bars w/o quote from the installer unless provided by the customer.
  • BAF is mounting to 2m or less angle iron or an I beam
  • Conduit to be used for Powerfoil8, Basic 6 and Pivot fans from controller to motor, Shielded cable wiring to be used from MDP to controller
  • Shielded cable to be used on Element, PowerfoilX2.0 and PF8 fans. If customer or locals do not allow AC or MC cable the job will need to be a quoted price.
  • All Lift prices are for 8m narrow scissor lift with no more than $250 each way for freight.
  • Prices for metro installs only – remote locations and regional towns would require additional costs.

Installation Adders

  • If customer’s facility requires a larger lift (up to 14m) increase price by $350 up to 2 fans
  • Structural, mechanical and electrical engineer charges to be incurred by customer.
  • Fabrication and installation of structural engineer design mount.
  • Electrical permits are up to the discretion of the customer responsible for costs.
  • Electrical/Conduit runs greater than 50m will be issued at $3.75 per metre.
  • Data controller runs greater than 50m will be issued at $3.75 per metre (does not include data runs)
  • Data controller runs greater than 50m fully housed in conduit will be issued $13.50 per metre.
  • Rigid pipe is a $22.50 per metre adder to overall cost of job.
  • There is a $450.00 adder for adding light to PFX2.0; the PFX2.0 light will be added to the existing lighting circuit in the area.
  • Fire relay installation: (BAF will not tie into the fire panel)
  • Yellow Jacket Only- Conduit runs over 15m will be issued at an additional $1.00 per metre.
