Case Study: Lone Star AOG

The halides were so focused, putting light straight down. The Big Ass Lights are much better - lighting the full space. All the employees have been very impressed. They're especially happy with the fact that they can walk in and the lights switch on instantly. Phil Lawrence, General Manager

Problem

Productivity is important at Lone Star AOG. Its 25 employees often work long hours and late nights to meet their promise to fix broken jets by morning, whether it’s already in their Dallas hangar or in another state. The hangar’s original 400-watt metal halides took several seconds to come on and about 10 minutes to warm up to full brightness — an unacceptable delay and lost time for technicians when they needed to fly out for an emergency repair or fix a plane locally.

Solution

Lone Star AOG installed one 14-ft (4.3-m) Basic 6® fan and four Big Ass Light™ High Bay LED fixtures in the hangar. The 26,000-lumen LEDs are brighter and disperse light more broadly than the narrow beams of the metal halide lamps, helping employees see inside engines and more closely inspect paint jobs. The Big Ass Light LEDs also turn on instantly and require no warmup, improving productivity by letting technicians get to work quickly at any hour. Basic 6 keeps employees cool and comfortable even when temperatures surge over 100°F (37.8°C), generating such an effective breeze employees don’t turn it over 30 percent.
