Problem

Shortly after its decommissioning in 1970, the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier was anchored permanently in Mount Pleasant, S.C., and converted into the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. In addition to welcoming regular tourist crowds, the Navy ship hosts more than 300 special events each year, from educational symposiums to hands-on flight simulations. But the steel ship absorbed and trapped heat, creating oven-like conditions for its wayfarers. Realizing noisy box fans provided no relief, the events team turned to Big Ass Solutions®.

Solution

Patriots Point installed two 14-ft (4.2-m) diameter Element fans in the ship’s most popular event space. In summer, Big Ass Fans provide a gentle, cooling breeze that creates a more enjoyable atmosphere for guests. In winter, they circulate warm air to create an even temperature throughout the space. Silent and efficient, the Element fans are another awe-worthy addition to this distinguished battleship that earned 11 battle stars for service during World War II.
