Two leaders in home comfort and efficiency have partnered to tackle rising air conditioning expenses ahead of summer. Big Ass Fans’ Haiku® ceiling fan will now integrate with ecobee smart thermostats, saving customers up to 30 percent on home cooling costs.

Instead of using a single temperature reading from your thermostat (usually in a hallway) to keep your home comfortable, Haiku and ecobee use sensor technology to manage the comfort in individual rooms. Thermostats by ecobee incorporate wireless room sensors that measure temperature and occupancy, and Haiku ceiling fans feature built-in temperature, humidity and occupancy sensors to adjust fan speed automatically as conditions change.

Besides added convenience and comfort, the pairing of Haiku fans and ecobee can save big money this summer. The air movement created by Haiku can make you feel several degrees cooler than the actual temperature in a room, so you can raise the setpoint on your ecobee thermostat higher than normal, allowing you to save money and energy while staying just as comfortable.

Each degree you raise your thermostat saves you up to 6 percent on energy costs. If each home thermostat was raised just 6 degrees, we would reduce carbon emissions by 78 billion pounds, the equivalent of taking 3.2 million homes off the grid a year.

“ecobee and Big Ass Fans® share a commitment to smart home innovation and, most importantly, to delivering comfort to the rooms that matter most,” said Stuart Lombard, President and CEO of ecobee. “Through this integration, ecobee users can conveniently sync their devices with Haiku products to deliver maximum home comfort and energy efficiency. It’s a win-win for the consumer and the environment.”

This integration follows another smart home partnership both Big Ass Fans and ecobee unveiled this year. Recently, both companies announced that Amazon’s Alexa-enabled devices, including Echo, will allow voice control of Haiku fans and ecobee thermostats. The commands allow users to change their fan speed, fan lights and control home temperature through their thermostat, all hands-free.

If you use all these devices together, it’s as simple as saying, “Alexa, turn the thermostat up 2 degrees.” Technology takes care of the rest, seamlessly communicating with each device to make your request happen and your life that much more comfortable. These integrations are another way Big Ass Fans and ecobee continue to establish their place as leaders of the smart home ecosystem.
